The original idea for this installation came from a personal interest. When I was a kid I discovered that if you stay long enough looking at yourself in a mirror, you will experience a shift on the way you see yourself. Your own reflection seems to start changing and deforming until you seem to be a different person other than yourself. I used to experience this as something really scary.

For this project I wanted to experiment with this effect and enhance it through the use of light and music. By presenting the spectator with their own reflection and making them to stare at themselves for long enough. Programming some lights to create different light settings over the duration of the work, the spectator could experience how their face seemed to change together with the music and the atmosphere.

In this case I used music made by an Spanish artist (Silberius de Ura) whose music is inspired by shamanistic rituals and sounds from the Neolithic. The lights where positioned in really harsh angles to create unnatural shadows and shapes in the face. These lights appear and transition really subtly. Fir this reason the spectators couldn't always tell how the light was changing, but still would notice a change. Almost as if it was only their perception that changed.

Some people experienced this work as a reflection on the way our personality works. We all have different faces, the one we show and the one we carry on the inside. This journey made them inquire and explore the darkest facets of themselves. Making them reflect about the way they present themselves in contrast with he way they feel on the inside, of who they really think they are.
